Using Twitter in Your Phone

Twitter Phone
For those who were left out of the techno lop for some time now, it is time for you to explore the wonders that Twitter can bring. This is a new kind of "micro-blogging" technology that uses multiple methods of communication to help keep you in touch with people and information you care about.

More importantly, using Twitter with your phone will change the feel of Twitter for you. Through this social networking site, not only can one receive Tweets via various methods including through the website itself (Twitter.com), IM, cell phone or a third-party program when people that were specified update or post an info, they can also send updates to Twitter while they are on the go.

To enable Twitter on the cell phone, the following steps might help:

Step 1: Go to Twitter.com and hit the "Join For Free" link.

Step 2: Go to the "Settings" link on the top of the page.

Step 3: Select the "Phone & IM" link on this page

Step 4: Enter in your cell phone number, including your area code, in the "Mobile Phone Number" text box and hit the "Save" button. If you wish to receive updates on your cell phone from Twitter, check the box next to "It's okay for Twitter to send txt messages to my phone. Std. rates apply."

If you're outside the US, precede your phone number with a "+" and your country code.

Step 5: Wait for Twitter to send you a text message saying "That worked! What are you doing now?"

Step 6: Update Twitter by sending text messages from your cell phone when you're on the road, riding mass transit, waiting at the doctor's office, or whenever you're away from the computer. If you opted to receive updates, you'll get text messages from Twitter whenever your friends send their updates.

It is as simple as that.

However, please take note. Twitter charges you nothing, but how much it costs to use Twitter with text messaging depends on your text messaging plan. Standard text messaging rates (such as international text messaging fees) do apply. Consult your service provider to ensure that your text plan covers your Twitter usage. If you're using our international numbers, give your provider the Twitter phone number you'll be using to see if you'll incur extra charges. If you're using Twitter from outside of the US, please consult your carrier, as every provider has a different policy.
