FF4 Trailer Still Failed To Get The Tone Right

The Doomed Dr. Doom
The "Fantastic Four" reboot continues to have a rough go of it. From terrible wording in character biographies, to mismanaged reveals, to having to back pedal on Doom’s origin, to miscasting the race of characters, things have been bumpy to say the least.

The new trailer is not helping it one bit and just continues to dig a deeper hole than before.

Reed Richards was rarely shown as a scientific genius who has little grasp on social niceties or safety protocols (which is probably how they all end up in the teleporters to begin with). Johnny Storm still does not have the confidence of Chris Evans’ character in the previous FF4 movie.

The plot puts up a misleading appearance by trying too hard to be controversial with the government utilizing the team as a weapon while Johnny and Sue’s dad tries to stop them. Doctor Doom’s new appearance was revealed, including a scarred body, which is really weird. Finally, the trailer showed an exhibitionist Thing all in his naked glory.

But the worse of all are the cringey lines uttered by the main characters. Sample of these lines are:

  • "We can't change the past, but we can change the future.”
  • ”He’s stronger than any of us!" "He's not stronger than all of us."
  • "What if we say no?", "Say yes.”

From the press release:

FANTASTIC FOUR, a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.
