Social justice warriors and supporters of diversity who wanted to change Daniel Rand's race from Caucasian to Asian must be squirming in their seats right now after "Iron Fist" just became the most-binged Netflix show of 2017.

Comic followers and millions of fans who wanted the Marvel series to stick with the source material are laughing their hearts out right ow after figures from 7Park Data (via Variety) showed that 54.7 percent of everyone streaming "Iron Fist" on its premiere date of 17 March stuck with the series for three episodes of more – which is above the average for an hour-long Netflix drama. This gives it a binge score of 46.9 percent.

Iron Fist also accounted for 14.6 percent of all streams on Netflix on launch day, so it also came out on top when compared to the percentage of streamers choosing other popular Netflix shows on their launch days too, including the likes of "Stranger Things" (4 percent), Marvel's "Luke Cage" (12.8 percent), Marvel's "Daredevil" season two (13.8 percent) and "Orange is the New Black" season four.

"The relationship between critic reviews and mass appeal has always been a complicated one," 7Park Data senior analyst Christopher Coby said.

"Consider the '70s, '80s, '90s and the long list of shows with top audience numbers but few Golden Globes or Emmys to show for it.

"The actual streams data tells us that what critics consider the best shows and what streaming viewers consider the best are sometimes two very different things. Marvel's Iron Fist is a case in point."

Star Finn Jones, who has faced his share of criticism for being cast in the lead role ahead of an Asian star, previously argued that it is a show for "the fans".

"I think some of the reviews we saw were seeing the show through a very specific lens, and I think when the fans of the Marvel Netflix world and fans of the comic books view the show through the lens of just wanting to enjoy a superhero show, then they will really enjoy what they see," he said.

"I think it's a fantastic show which is really fun and I think it stands up there with the other Defenders' shows without a doubt."

Marvel's "Iron Fist" is streaming now on Netflix.
