Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan), one of the most powerful storms on record, tore through eastern portion of the Philippines last 8 Novmber 2013, leaving vulnerable citizens seeking shelter as homes and schools were wiped away. The death toll, which was initially estimated by officials at the Philippine Red Cross at up to 1,200, is expected to soar as authorities attempt to determine the full extent of the devastation.
The news has attracted international attention which prompted an outpouring of emotion from around the world on Twitter.com and other online networks and forums.
