The Perfect Lincoln Parody by Jim Carrey

Jim Carrey and Lincoln
If you are tuning in regularly to the Major League Baseball (MLB) playoffs, then you should be familiar with the Lincoln ad that have invaded ad breaks during every single game.

However, Lincoln’s Matthew McConaughey–powered commercials come across as an exercise in strangeness: The star putters along in a 2015 MKC crossover, whisper-muttering bizarre musings more fit for his role in "True Detective" than for a brand spokesman. No wonder the actor's reflection on the meaningless of existence was the primary subject of Jim Carrey's parody when he hosted "Saturday Night Live" and he nailed it.

The soft, slow drawl; the strange hand gestures; the important-sounding meaninglessness of what he’s saying—it's all perfect comedy fodder for the veteran comedian. Carrey even looks the part, nailing the slightly unkempt professional attire that Lincoln chose, apparently to tailor its pitch to the target market of wealthy renegade philosophers.

Posted below is the original version of the commercial with McConaughey:

And here's the spot on take of Carrey which, as of last count, already had more than 2 million views:

Here are some of the best lines from the parody, delivered by Carrey in McConaughey’s signature Southern drawl:
  • "You don’t buy a Lincoln because it makes sense, you do it because you love it. Or you’re an Uber driver."
  • Talking about why he did the commercial: "My agent was like, I could understand if you did this right after The Lincoln Lawyer. That woulda made sense."
  • Looking at his fingers: "When I’m done rolling up this booger, should I eat it or throw it out the window? Feels good, like a tiny little tennis ball."
  • After replying to children in the back seat: "Whose kids are these, and how’d they get in my Lincoln?"
As far as Lincoln is concerned, there’s probably no such thing as bad press, but they may want to hire Carrey next because he definitely gave them more attention than McConaughey.
