Vetting for the 'Captain Marvel' Role

Winnick as Captain Marvel
When you are determine to land in a lead role, chances are you will try to utilize all available means to convince the studio that you are the right actor for the job. This includes vetting to everyone how fans really love for you to play that role. The upcoming “Captain Marvel” is no exception.

With Chadwick Boseman playing Black Panther and Marvel circling Benedict Cumberbatch to play Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel is the next Marvel Cinematic Universe superhero who will make previously unknown female actor widely famous.

It will be a long time before Marvel makes their official announcement, but many actresses have already expressed their enthusiasm at playing the superheroine. However, none have taken it as far as “Vikings” star Katheryn Winnick, who recently posted this unique piece of fan art of her as Carol Danvers.

It is no wonder why Winnick is actively making sure that the photo art above is widely circulating. While it is possible that she only posted the image on Instagram out of gratitude for her fans, it is interesting that she specifically picked this image.

Fortunately she has fans that care enough about her to make art like this. Any actress can say she’d like to play Captain Marvel, but visuals help a lot when considering someone for a role. If someone shows this to a Marvel casting director, this will definitely work to Winnick’s advantage if she’s considered. She’s got the acting chops, and now people have an idea of what she’ll look like playing Carol Danvers on the big screen.

Winnick previously expressed interest in jumping on the Marvel train when said she’d love to play a female Thor, referencing the recent character change in the comic books. It’s unlikely anything like that will happening soon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), but Captain Marvel is just as suitable a role for her. While the majority Marvel movies are led by stars like Robert Downey Jr. and Samuel L. Jackson, Marvel may decide to go with a lesser-known actress to lead Captain Marvel. After all, Chris Hemsworth wasn’t well-known when he was cast as Thor, and look how that turned out.

Not only does Winnick have a lot of experience with action playing Lagertha on Vikings, but she herself is also skilled in martial arts. That’s an impressive resume for anyone auditioning to play a superhero.

Captain Marvel will be released on 6 July 2018, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that will be her first appearance in the MCU.
