"Supergirl" Costume Has Been Revealed

Supergirl
After "Green Arrow" and "The Flash", "Supergirl" has followed suit and will be be seen on TV screens soon. All three were based on characters from DC Comics.

The first photos of Melissa Benoist as the titular character in pilot for "Supergirl" were released by Warner Bros., just as production begins. And she’s looking, well, super!

The former Glee star begins shooting the pilot soon, in which she plays Kara Danvers aka Kara Zor-El, who escapes the destruction on Krypton to join her cousin on Earth. Uber-producer Greg Berlanti — who shepherds fellow DC Comics shows "Arrow" and "The Flash" — is behind the project.

The high-profile pilot also features Mehcad Brooks as Jimmy Olsen, Laura Benanti as Alura Zor-El, Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant, Chyler Leigh as Alexandra "Alex" Danvers, and Jeremy Jordan as Winslow "Winn" Schott. Dean Cain will also appear in a mystery role.

If Supergirl gets the greenlight at CBS, it would be the first network superhero series with a female lead in over a decade. A few years ago, NBC tried to make one about "Wonder Woman" written by another uber-producer, David E. Kelley, and starring Friday Night Lights alum Adrianne Palicki. At the time, Palicki’s costume was roundly criticized.

This time, the Supergirl outfit was made by Oscar-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood, who said, "In designing Supergirl, I wanted to embrace the past, but more importantly, thrust her into the street-style action hero of today."
