A new movie is in the making and it highlights the life of one popular and widely respected royal - Princess Diana. The movie "Spencer" will focus about her days deciding to cut ties with the royals and divorce Prince Charles. Princess Diana was a cultural icon and has impacted the world with her class and style in the decades after her death.
However, the decision to cast Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana has caused an uproar on social media. Surprise? Not really considering how the actress was touted as the worst among the active ones today.
Deadline broke the story that Kristen will be portraying Princess Di and the film will be directed by Pablo Larraín, who is responsible for the Natalie Portman-led biopic about "Jackie Kennedy". The film will focus on a three-day period in the early 1990s.
In 1981, Diana married Charles in a lavish wedding watched by one billion people. During their marriage, they had sons William and Harry. The relationship became strained and they separated in 1992. They would not become officially divorced until 1996. Diana would be killed in a car accident the following year.
Princess Diana was in line to be queen one day, but she knew it wasn't the life that she wanted. Nicknamed "The People's Princess," Diana was as down-to-earth as they come. She loved to connect with her subjects, helping those closest to her ... but the royal knew that the life she had signed up for wasn't one she envisioned for herself.
Still, it doesn't seem people are happy with this casting choice and have no problem letting their feelings be known in Twitter.
One wrote, "Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana is one of the worst castings I’ve ever heard of. Princess Di was known for her charm and charisma and I’ve seen rocks with more personality than Kristen Stewart."
Another said, "Like candy from a baby Hahahahaha. I’m also livid at Kristen Stewart getting the role of Princess Di in a knew biopic. Already a flop in my eyes!!"
"I like Kristen Stewart ... shes been a good actress in many movies HOWEVER I'm very leery about her playing Princess Di ... not so sure that's smart casting," pondered another.
Kristen got her start in the "Twilight" franchise, and although that's always what she will be best-known for, it's definitely not an accurate representation of her lack of acting abilities. "Snow White" and "Charlie's Angels" are two of the latest movies where Kristen failed to connect with the audience and to emphasize her lack of empathy to the character she plays, then the movie "Zathura" should do the trick.
Accroding to Director Larraín, "Kristen is one of the great actors around today. To do this well, you need something very important in film, which is mystery. Kristen can be many things, and she can be very mysterious and very fragile an ultimately very strong as well, which is what we need. The combination of those elements made me think of her. The way she responded to the script and how she is approaching the character, it’s very beautiful to see. I think she's going to do something stunning and intriguing at the same time. She is this force of nature."
Funny that Larraín failed to mention Kristen's tendency to sleep with movie directors.
