Online Anti-Pork Protest Goes Landline

Abolish PDAF Now
An online call for the abolition of the pork barrel system or the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) is coming to life organically.

Since it started as just a call to attend a "pocket picnic" for taxpayers on 26 August 2013, no programs were planned for the event. Anybody can go to the stage and speak their minds out as a taxpayers and a Filipino that wants corrupt practices to end.

Pseudo online organizers dubbed the gathering as "Million People March" in Luneta, more than 7,200 netizens have already confirmed their attendance which, according to the event's Facebook page, starts at 9:00 A.M. on Monday. The date also coincides with the nation’s National Heroes Day.

Peachy Rallonza-BretaƱato, who is being credited with having initiated the Facebook call for Filipinos to gather at the Quirino Grandstand on National Heroes' Day, is asking everyone who wish to attend to observe strict respect and civility. She also cautions against groups who might want to "color, dominate, or hijack" the gathering.

At this time, several organizations have volunteered to help manage the gathering just to give it a semblance of order. For instance, there will some noise barrage and a candle-lighting ceremony scheduled, but nothing is really set in stone.

Despite its apparent lack or order, one thing is clear. Anyone who shares their disgust with the current pork barrel system is welcome. It is also a venue where one can move on from being just a mere 'clicktivists' and 'likers' online and make their physical presence felt to authorities.

A number Facebook communities have sprouted, echoing the same sentiments. Among these are:
This will be one event where Filipinos can show the world that People Power still works
